DIY & Practical Tips for Your Eyes and Glasses

Caring for your eyes and glasses doesn’t have to be complicated. Simple DIY methods and daily tips can greatly improve comfort, protection, and the lifespan of your glasses, while also supporting eye health.

How to Properly Clean Your Glasses

Proper cleaning enhances visual clarity and protects lenses from scratches:

  • Use microfiber cloths: Always clean glasses with a microfiber cloth, avoiding tissues or clothing that can cause micro-scratches.
  • Soap and water: Rinse lenses with lukewarm water and a little mild soap. Gently dry with a microfiber cloth.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals: Do not use ammonia-based sprays or strong chemicals that can damage coatings or plastic lenses.
  • Proper storage: Keep glasses in a case when not in use to prevent dust and scratches.

Protecting Your Eyes in Different Conditions

Sunlight

  • Use sunglasses with 100% UV protection.
  • Prefer large or wrap-around frames that also cover the sides of the eyes.
  • Combine with a hat or shade for extra protection.
Dust and Wind
  • In dusty or windy environments, choose snug-fitting or sports wrap-around glasses.
  • Clean lenses frequently to prevent eye irritation.
Screens and Digital Use
  • Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 6 meters away for 20 seconds.
  • Use lenses with blue light filters to reduce fatigue and dryness.
  • Keep screens at a proper distance and brightness.

Eye Relaxation Exercises

Daily exercises can reduce fatigue and improve eye mobility:

  1. 1. Eye circles: Close your eyes and slowly rotate them clockwise and counterclockwise 5 times.
  2. 2. Focus shift: Hold a near object (e.g., a pencil) and focus on it for 5 seconds, then look at a distant object for 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times.
  3. 3. Palming: Close your eyes and cover them with your palms without pressing. Stay relaxed for 1–2 minutes to relax eye muscles.
  4. 4. Blinking exercise: Slowly close and open your eyes 10 times to hydrate and rest your eyelids.
These small exercises reduce eye muscle tension and help protect against digital eye strain.
